About Us

Bamboo craft is one of the oldest and most eco-friendly traditional arts of Andhra Pradesh. The state’s rich natural resources, especially in regions like Eluru, East and West Godavari, and Visakhapatnam, provide abundant bamboo that artisans skillfully transform into beautiful and useful products. For generations, this craft has been a major source of livelihood for rural and tribal communities, with knowledge and techniques passed down within families.

Traditionally, bamboo was used to make baskets, mats, winnowing trays, fishing traps, and household containers that were essential for village life. Today, the craft has evolved to include modern and decorative items such as lampshades, furniture, flower vases, toys, and wall hangings, which appeal to urban consumers as eco-friendly alternatives to plastic.

Many artisans now work together through Self Help Groups (SHGs) to improve their skills, design new products, and connect directly with markets. Organizations like the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (Lepakshi) also support these artisans by providing training, tools, and opportunities to display their work in fairs and exhibitions.

Bamboo craft in Andhra Pradesh beautifully combines tradition and innovation, promoting sustainable living while preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage
